The Poetics of Space

About This Project

 
The Poetics of Space is a site-specific installation with 14 rolls of moving toilet paper mounted at 5 meters high. Each roll is individually controlled to ascend and descend vertically from the ceiling to eye level creating different patterns, continually changing our sense of space.
 

Walking into 1559 SPACE, one loses their sense of depth and scale due to the large, empty whiteness. The walls seem neither close nor far, the ceiling neither high nor low. The experience makes apparent our limited capacity to process spatial information and construct our image of physical reality.
